What is the “Start screen” in Windows 8?

We all are very much familiar with the ‘start menu’ in older versions of Windows; in Windows 8 this start menu is replaced by a “Start screen”. Now what is a start screen?
A start screen is nothing but an active screen consisting of
a number of dynamic tiles. Each tile on a start screen represents an
application on your system. These ‘Tiles’
on the Start screen of Windows 8 are actually links to the documents, folders, people,
apps, pictures, and even websites. If
you want to know where to look for Metro apps, then they are alive on the start
screen of windows 8. Now you don’t have to search the entire system for
documents or anything that matters to you as everything is readily available on
the start screen itself. These tiles are dynamic and could be moved about on the
screen depending on your preferences. Also, we call these tiles as “alive” as
they are updated regularly with the latest info. This keeps a user up to date
at a glance.
The best thing which I like about the start screen of new
Windows 8 is that you can customize it according to your preferences and likes.
So now no more welcome by the same old general screen but a lively and personalized
experience is awaiting you.
